MOSS 2007 People Search WebPart.
This WebPart allows you to drop a search control onto the page and easily customise the search fields by editing a simple XML string.
The WebPart will allow you to list the fields horizontally or vertically and allows you to specify either a TextBox or DropDown control allowing great flexibility in placing searchable fields on a page.
This search control can be used for searching anything within SharePoint not just People. By telling the control which search results page to submit to, you can easily create custom search pages on your SharePoint site.
Installation.
After downloading the solution package open up a command prompt, change to the folder you have saved the solution package to and use the following stsadm.exe command to deploy to your MOSS 2007 farm.
stsadm.exe –o addsolution –filename peoplesearchwebpartsetup.wsp
Configuration.
To edit the fields displayed on the control simply modify the WebPart and in the 'Field Definition XML' box edit the XML as shown below.
- The 'Text' attribute of the 'Field' node specifies the text displayed next to the control.
- The 'Value' attribute of the 'Field' node specifies the search field in MOSS to search on.
- The 'ControlType' attribute of the 'Field' node specified whether the control should render as a TextBox or a DropDownList
- If you specify 'DropDownList' as the ControlType then you can specify what appears in the drop down by modifying the Values/Value nodes as shown in the example XML.
